Audition Dates:

Youth Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra: Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at FWAFA

String Orchestra and Junior String Orchestra: Saturday, April, 28 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at FWAFA

Audition Requirements:

Youth Orchestra

Auditions are open to string, wind, brass, percussion and harp players. FWYO accepts students through age 18.

String players should prepare (1) the orchestral excerpts found below, (2) scales in three octaves, detache, at various tempi, in ALL major and minor keys, and (3) a three minute solo (or portion of a solo) of their choosing.

Wind, Brass, Percussion players should prepare (1) the orchestral excerpts found below, and (2) a three minute solo (or portion of a solo) of their choosing.

Flutes should be able to play or be willing to learn to play piccolo. If the student does play piccolo, please bring the instrument to the audition and be prepared to play an orchestral excerpt of your choice.
Oboes should play or be willing to play English horn. If the student does play English horn, please bring the instrument to the audition, and be prepared to play at least one orchestra excerpt of your choice.
Clarinets should be able to play or be willing to learn to play A clarinet and bass clarinet. If you own one of these instruments, please bring it to the audition and be prepared to play one orchestral excerpt of your choice.
Bassoons should be able to play or be willing to play contrabassoon.
Horns must be able to transpose.
Trumpets must be able to play Bb and C trumpets and be able to transpose.
Trombones should be able to read bass clef and tenor clef and be willing to learn to read alto clef.
Percussionists must be able to play timpani, snare drums, cymbals, and xylophone.

Harp players should prepare (1) a three minute solo of their choice, and (2) two contrasting orchestral excerpts of their choice.

Philharmonic Orchestra

Junior String Orchestra

Auditions are open to all string players.

String players should prepare (1) the orchestral excerpts found below, (2) scales (see below), and (3) a three minute solo (or portion of a solo) of their choosing.

Violins: 2 octave G Major and D Major scales
Violas: 2 octave G Major Scale
Cellos: 2 octave G Major Scale
Basses: 1 octave G Major OR D Major Scale

How to Schedule an Audition

Download and fill out an audition application.
Turn in the application with a $25 check to 4401 Trail Lake Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76109.
Download and prepare the audition material located below for the most advanced ensemble being considered. For example: students considering both SO and JSO only need to prepare the materials for SO.
Read the "Audition Solo Requirements" and prepare an appropriate 2-3 minute solo. This does not need to be memorized and will not be performed with accompaniment.
